Borussia Dortmund will have their final pre-season friendly on Monday as they take on Sparta Rotterdam, with Marco Reus set to make his return.

Borussia Dortmund have one final tune up game against Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam on Monday before they play their first competitive match of the new season in the first round of the DFB Pokal against MSV Duisburg a week later. Dortmund haven’t looked very convincing in their previous three friendlies, unable to pull out a win. But results in pre-season don’t really matter, with a bigger focus on getting players back to full fitness

One thing to keep an eye out for will be the formation Lucien Favre goes with in the final pre-season game and the strength of the lineup he chooses. Favre has been very vocal about wanting to play in a back four again but results just haven’t been there with that formation with the personnel Dortmund have. The players reportedly want to play with the back three so it will be interesting to see what formation Favre goes with. Borussia Dortmund will be without the 15 players currently out on international duty.

Players to Watch

All eyes on Monday will be on Marco Reus, as he makes his comeback after a seven month injury lay-off. The Borussia Dortmund captain will be looking to get back match fitness ahead of the new season. Although we likely won’t see Reus play 90 minutes, it’s still great news that could potentially put him in line for a return to the starting line-up for Dortmund’s season opener against Gladbach on September 19th.

Another player to watch will be Gio Reyna. He has already scored four goals in three pre-season games, and will be aiming to make another good impression ahead of the start of the season.

Dortmund fans will also be treated to their first sighting of Reinier Jesus in the black and yellow jersey as he is set to make his debut. He will likely start up front with Erling Haaland out on international duty.
