Borussia Dortmund get their season underway on Monday, with a tricky away game against third division side MSV Duisburg awaiting them.

After a mixed and eventful pre-season, the 2020/21 season is finally upon us. And as always, Borussia Dortmund will begin their new campaign in the first round of the DFB Pokal. The long road to Berlin for Lucien Favre’s side begins with a short trip to MSV Duisburg, who will be determined to pull off an upset.

Recent Form

MSV Duisburg

The Zebras only narrowly missed out on promotion to the second division of German football last season, finishing fifth in the 3. Liga, just three points behind winners Bayern Munich II. Duisburg haven’t been in the Bundesliga since the 2007/08 season, but they will certainly have their sights set on shocking their more illustrious opponents on Monday evening.

Borussia Dortmund

After finishing second in the Bundesliga table last season, Borussia Dortmund will be aiming to topple Bayern this time around. But another target for this season will be to reach the DFB Pokal final. The Black and Yellows have underperformed in the Pokal in each of the last three seasons, getting knocked out in the third round all three times.

DFB Pokal ties are often unpredictable and produce shock results, especially in the first round. So Borussia Dortmund will certainly have to be on their game right from the first minute.
