Previous Meeting: Borussia Dortmund 5-1 MSV Duisburg
The two teams met last month in a pre-season friendly as part of the ‘Cup of Traditions’ tournament held in Duisburg. The 60 minute game saw Borussia Dortmund enjoy a comfortable 5-1 win over the third division side.
Quick goals from Gio Reyna and Thorgan Hazard gave the Black and Yellows an early two goal lead. Jadon Sancho then added a third, before Duisburg pulled a goal back after a mistake from Marwin Hitz. But second half goals from Ansgar Knauff sealed an impressive win for Lucien Favre’s side.
The last time these two teams met in a competitive game was all the way back in the 2007/08 season when they played out a 3-3 draw in the Bundesliga. Duisburg took an early two goal lead, before Sebastian Kehl halved the deficit for Borussia Dortmund. The Zebras doubled their lead again soon after, but Diego Klimowicz made it 3-2 before scoring the equaliser in the 90th minute.
Borussia Dortmund ended the season in 13th place, as Duisburg were relegated after finishing bottom of the table.
