Thomas Meunier (6.5/10)

Making his Borussia Dortmund debut, Meunier was almost playing as a winger at times. He often found himself in acres of space down the right flank and delivered a few decent crosses. But he went with the safer option more often than not. Still, it was an encouraging performance by Meunier, especially considering that he missed the majority of pre-season with injury.

Axel Witsel (6.5/10)

Witsel won Borussia Dortmund the penalty early on when his cross was handled by a Duisburg defender. As always, he was assured with the ball at his feet, completing nearly 95% of his passes. He was certainly lucky with the goal which came off his hip, but he’ll take it.

Jude Bellingham (9/10)

Aggressive without the ball and confident in possession, Jude Bellingham put in a near perfect performance as he celebrated his Borussia Dortmund debut by becoming the club’s youngest ever goalscorer. He put in a robust, all-action shift and did not stop running for the 45 minutes he spent on the pitch.

He had to be substituted at half time after receiving a yellow card in the first half, but overall it was an excellent debut display by the young Englishman.

Thorgan Hazard (8.5/10)

With Raphael Guerreiro and Nico Schulz out injured, Thorgan Hazard was chosen to play at left wing-back. And barring a few defensive lapses, the Belgian international did a really good job in his new role. In addition to his stunning goal and assist, Hazard provided five key passes and always looked dangerous going forward.
