Roman Bürki and Raphael Guerreiro injury doubts for Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga opener

Borussia Dortmund could have to make do without Roman Bürki and Raphael Guerreiro for their Bundesliga opener against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Bürki and Guerreiro missed Borussia Dortmund’s 5-0 win over MSV Duisburg on Monday with hip problems and muscle strain respectively. And it remains to be seen if they will be fit in time to take on Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Bürki was treated at Borussia Dortmund’s Brackel training centre on Tuesday morning as his teammates kicked off preparations for the Gladbach game with a 90 minute session.
If Bürki fails to recover in time, second choice goalkeeper Marwin Hitz will take his place between the sticks. Hitz kept a clean sheet against MSV Duisburg, but Borussia Mönchengladbach will almost certainly offer a much tougher test. Thorgan Hazard will likely keep his place at left wing-back if Guerreiro misses this weekend’s crunch clash.
The Belgian international scored a goal and got an assist against Duisburg in the DFB Pokal first round tie on Monday, and will be aiming to impress against his former club this weekend.
In slightly better news, Mateu Morey (torn muscle fibre) and Nico Schulz (calf injury) stepped up their road to recovery by making their return to individual training. Both full backs completed an individual running session on Tuesday, and the newspaper adds that they should be back in team training by next week at the latest.
Borussia Dortmund begin their Bundesliga campaign this weekend at home to top four chasing Borussia Mönchengladbach (kick-off: 18:30 CEST).
