Borussia Dortmund extend Immanuel Pherai’s contract before loaning him out
Borussia Dortmund have extended the contract of 19 year old Immanuel Pherai before sending him out on loan to PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie.
Immanuel Pherai impressed with Borussia Dortmund had a solid pre-season and earned himself a contract extension until 2022. However, for the coming season he won’t be playing with Borussia Dortmund and will be loaned out to Dutch side PEC Zwolle. Pherai’s contract was set to expire at the end of the 2020/2021 season, and it has not been extended by another year.
After scoring three goals in the pre-season, Pherai showed those in charge that he has the talent to potentially be a part of the senior team. Had Pherai had a mediocre pre-season and not stood out he could have played out the year for Dortmund’s second team and moved on at the end of the year. Instead he will gain valuable experience in a professional league with the goal of returning to fight for a spot in Dortmund’s first team next season.
Pherai confirmed he held talks with the Dortmund higher ups before heading out on loan. With the goal of getting as much game time as possible he will look to take the next step forward in his development.
"“I am very satisfied with the opportunity that Zwolle is offering me. As a 19-year-old, it is my priority to play games at the highest level. The conversations with the trainer and technical manager gave me the feeling that the club has a concrete plan for me,” – Immanuel Pherai"
Pherai joins up with PEC Zwolle after they lost their first game against Feyenoord last weekend. Zwolle will face Pherai’s former club AZ Alkmaar on Saturday and the forward will be hopeful to feature if he can.
