Thomas Meunier (6/10)

Meunier did a decent job on his Bundesliga debut, considering he is just coming back from an injury. He played in some very dangerous crosses from the right flank, even though his decision making wasn’t always the best. He does not have the pace or the explosiveness of Achraf Hakimi, and that might be an issue in some games. He will also have to improve a bit on his link-up play. But defensively, he was switched on for the most part.

Axel Witsel (7/10)

Witsel quietly had a very solid game as he dominated the midfield battle and provided his usual security with the ball. He set the tone for his side with high pressing and never shied away from a duel. Taking the ball away from him proved to be a really tough task for the Gladbach midfielders, and he was fouled thrice. It was a performance reminiscent of what we saw from Witsel when he first arrived at Borussia Dortmund. And hopefully a sign of what’s to come this season.

Jude Bellingham (7/10)

Making his Bundesliga debut, Bellingham made a great impression once again. The 17 year old looked unfazed by the challenge in front of him, and put in a confident shift in midfield. Never afraid of making adventurous forward runs, Bellingham got his first assist in Borussia Dortmund colours when he set up Gio Reyna for the team’s opening goal.

Very few players have received a standing ovation from the Borussia Dortmund faithful on their debut, but Bellingham came off to rapturous applause when he was replaced by Thomas Delaney in the second half.

Thorgan Hazard (N/R)

Filling in at left wing-back for the injured Raphael Guerreiro once again, Hazard pulled his hamstring early in the game and had to be subbed off. Hope his injury isn’t too bad, and he can return soon.
