The opening weekend of the Bundesliga was full of drama, excitement, goals and most importantly in these unprecedented times, fans were also in attendance.

There were impressive away wins for Hertha Berlin, TSG Hoffenheim, SC Freiburg, Augsburg while the regular title contenders in Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig all won with relative ease. There were a total of 36 goals across the nine games, with only four of the 18 teams failing to find the net on the opening weekend.

Here is a roundup of the action-packed nine Bundesliga fixtures from matchday one.

Bayern Munich 8-0 Schalke 04

It was another devastating performance from Hansi Flick’s UEFA Champions League winners as Bayern Munich humiliated Schalke on Friday night with an 8-0 win, where Serge Gnabry scored an opening day hat-trick while Leroy Sane impressed on his first start against his former side. No Thiago? No problem for the Bavarians!

Robert Lewandowski, Leon Goretzka, Thomas Muller and 17-year-old Jamal Musiala scored their other goals, making it 30 wins without defeat (22 wins in a row) for Bayern. It was a night to forget for Schalke, as their nightmare 2020 continued.
