Werder Bremen 1-4 Hertha Berlin

Bremen somehow completed the great escape last season, staying up after beating FC Heidenheim on goal difference in the two legged relegation/promotion play-off. And Die Grün-Weißen will be hoping their heavy defeat to the hands of Hertha isn’t a sign of things to come this season.

Goals from Peter Pekarik and Dodi Lukebakio towards at the end of the first half put Hertha Berlin in the driving seat, before Matheus Cunha added the third shortly after the interval to effectively seal all three points. Werder did pull one back through to reduce the deficit through on-loan Hertha Berlin striker Davie Selke. But a late strike on the counterattack from the debutant Jhon Cordoba wrapped up and impressive performance on the road from Bruno Labbadia’s men.
