Thorgan Hazard’s injury could rule him out for several weeks, further depleting Borussia Dortmund’s options in the left wing-back position.

Borussia Dortmund enjoyed a 3-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday, but suffered a big blow with Thorgan Hazard having to be subbed off with what appeared to be a hamstring injury in just the 15th minute. Ruhr Nachrichten claim that there is a suspicion of a torn muscle fibre, and if that is the case, the Belgian international could be out of action for several weeks.

Losing Hazard would be a big blow for Borussia Dortmund, who are already without left wing-backs Raphael Guerreiro (muscle problems) and Nico Schulz (calf injury). The duo have missed both of Borussia Dortmund’s games so far this season, and were once again absent from training on Sunday morning. It remains to be seen just how long they will be out for.

Felix Passlack came on to replace the injured Hazard on Saturday for his first Borussia Dortmund appearance since 2017. The 22 year old put on an encouraging display both defensively and going forward. If Guerreiro, Schulz and Hazard aren’t able to recover in time, Passlack will probably be the first choice at left wing-back for the game against Augsburg next weekend and the DFL Supercup clash against Bayern Munich just four days later.

Lukasz Piszczek also missed Saturday’s game with a back injury, while Mateu Morey is recovering from a torn muscle fibre. Marcel Schmelzer is a long term absentee, having had knee surgery in July.
