Borussia Dortmund rejected Bayer Leverkusen’s enquiry to re-sign Julian Brandt

Bayer Leverkusen reportedly made an enquiry to bring Julian Brandt back to the club this summer, but it was rejected by Borussia Dortmund.
Julian Brandt left Bayer Leverkusen to join Borussia Dortmund last year for a fee in the region of 25 million euros. But Die Werkself reportedly wanted to bring him back this summer, and even made an enquiry for his signature, probably to offset the loss of Kai Havertz. According to Sport1, the enquiry was met with a very clear rejection from the BVB bosses.
After signing a five year deal with Borussia Dortmund last summer, Brandt enjoyed an impressive debut campaign at the Westfalenstadion. The German international made a total of 42 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring seven goals and assisting 13 more. Although the numbers hardly tell the full story of the impact he had on Dortmund’s attacking play.
But Brandt has since lost his spot in the Borussia Dortmund starting line-up thanks to the emergence of highly rated duo Jude Bellingham and Gio Reyna. He has come off the bench in both of his side’s games so far this season. But with a packed fixture list awaiting the Black and Yellows in the coming months, he will definitely get the chance to prove his quality.
With the European championships coming up at the end of the season, the 24 year old will be determined to play regularly so he can impress Germany head coach Joachim Löw.
Sport1 claim that if Brandt’s situation does not change this season, a return to Bayer Leverkusen will probably still be open for him.
