Emre Can (4.5/10)

Emre Can kept his spot on the right side of the Borussia Dortmund back line and was poor defensively, and his shortcomings with his ball movement were also visible. Can is usually very good at keeping possession or breaking through the opponents line with a quick dribble. That wasn’t the case today though, Can turned the ball over repeatedly, forcing long balls and passes through the middle of the pitch that consistently found the foot of an Augsburg player.

Mats Hummels (5/10)

Mats Hummels is going to share a bit of the blame for the first goal. Both Hummels and Akanji were marking one man and somehow turned being able to double team Uduokhai into him being completely unmarked by either for a wide open header.

Hummels starts out the free kick literally touching Uduokhai and as soon as the ball is kicked he leaves him and instead just defends empty space while the ball goes over him right to his man. Hummels’ silver lining is his passing, he continued to play line breaking passes through the Augsburg press. Hummels also missed an absolute sitter in stoppage time that could have brought Dortmund back within one.

Manuel Akanji (4.5/10)

Manuel Akanji was equally at fault for the first goal as Mats Hummels. Akanji was just on the opposite side of Uduokhai and completely failed in being able to get in front of him and the ball. Outside of that error Akanji was fine, he actually saved Dortmund a few times on the counter attack with his pace. He struggled against Niederlechner all game and never looked comfortable.
