Borussia Dortmund dropped points in a shock 2-0 loss to Augsburg on Saturday and will look to bounce back in a tough DFL Supercup clash against Bayern Munich.

Borussia Dortmund were far from their best on Saturday and suffered their first defeat of the season away to Augsburg. It wasn’t the result they were hoping for, especially this early in the season. After a strong start against Gladbach, the Black and Yellows just fell flat in their second game and were caught out defensively.

For the first midweek game of the season, we will likely see Favre rotate for the first time, especially on the heels of a loss. Players like Julian Brandt and Marco Reus who have come off the bench in the last three games could be in line for a start.

After opening up the season with back to back wins in the DFB Pokal and Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund fell flat in the follow up to the DFL Supercup. Although they absolutely dominated possession and chances, they failed to make the most of them throughout the 90 minutes. Both Roman Bürki and the Dortmund defence looked shaky against Ausgburg, and if they come out in the same fashion against Bayern, the result could be worse than just a 2-0 loss.

Although their DFB Pokal first round tie was pushed to October, Bayern have still played three games this season. Bayern started off the season with a 8-0 thrashing of Schalke, and then won the UEFA Super Cup in extra time against Sevilla, before a surprising loss to Hoffenheim on match day two of the Bundesliga. The defeat against Hoffenheim was even more shocking than Dortmund’s loss to Augsburg because Bayern doesn’t usually lose games like that. The Bavarians go into the game on the back of their first defeat in 2020, and will be looking to bounce back on Wednesday.
