Borussia Dortmund will not sell Manuel Akanji this summer

Borussia Dortmund will not let Manuel Akanji leave the club in this transfer window, amid rumours linking him with a move to England.
Manuel Akanji is reportedly a target for Premier League side Leicester City, with reports in English media claiming that they could make an offer in the region of 20 million euros for the Borussia Dortmund centre back before next week’s transfer deadline day. BILD claimed on Tuesday that the BVB bosses would ‘probably not refuse a sale’ of the Swiss international.
But now the reliable Funke Sport report that there is no truth to this rumour, and Dortmund will not be letting Akanji depart in this transfer window, as there would not be enough time to find a replacement for him.
Akanji, who joined Borussia Dortmund from FC Basel in January 2018, is one of only three specialist centre backs at the club at the moment. He had an error-laden campaign last year, but has still remains a key part of head coach Lucien Favre’s plans. He has started all three of his team’s games so far this season, and looks set to feature against Bayern Munich in the DFL Supercup on Wednesday.
The 25 year old still has two years remaining on his Borussia Dortmund contract. There is less than one week to go before the transfer window closes. And with Dan Axel Zagadou currently out injured, selling Akanji would not make much sense for Borussia Dortmund unless there was already a replacement lined up.
