Joshua Kimmich scored the winner as Borussia Dortmund suffered a 3-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the DFL Supercup.

Lucien Favre made the decision to name a heavily changed side, with a number of regular starters getting a rest. After a very even start to the game, Bayern took the lead through Corentin Tolisso, with the goal coming at the end of a blistering counter attack which started from a Borussia Dortmund corner. Thomas Müller headed home Bayern’s second, before Julian Brandt pulled a goal back for the Black and Yellows going into half-time.

Borussia Dortmund began the second half on the front foot, and equalised through Erling Haaland. But they were made to pay for missed chances when Joshua Kimmich got lucky, and somehow lifted his rebounded shot over Marwin Hitz. With the likes of Erling Haaland, Julian Brandt and Marco Reus already subbed off, Borussia Dortmund weren’t able to mount another comeback, giving Bayern a 3-2 victory.

Here are our player ratings from Borussia Dortmund’s defeat to Bayern Munich.

Marwin Hitz (5.5/10)

Hitz made initial saves before two of Bayern’s goals, and will feel slightly unlucky that both found the back of the net in the end. He didn’t really stand much of a chance against Müller’s header, but wasn’t tested as much as Bayern would have wanted.
