Borussia Dortmund will face FC Zenit Saint Petersburg, SS Lazio and Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
Borussia Dortmund were drawn in Group F, and they will have to overcome the challenge of Russian Premier League champions FC Zenit Saint Petersburg, Serie A side SS Lazio and Belgian champions Club Brugge in order to qualify for the UEFA Champions League round of 16. The first matchday of the group stage will take place on October 20-21, while the final matchday is scheduled for December 8–9.
Lucien Favre’s side finished second in their Champions League group last season, but were knocked out in the round of 16 by Paris St. Germain. And they will be aiming to improve on that this season. The Black and Yellows will certainly fancy their chances of qualifying for the knockout rounds.
Borussia Dortmund have a history with all three of their group stage opponents. They overcame the challenge of Zenit St. Petersburg in the 2013-14 Champions League round of 16, and also met Club Brugge in the Champions League group stage just two years ago. Dortmund have only met Lazio twice, beating the Italian side in the 1994-95 UEFA Cup Quarter-Finals 2-1 on aggregate.
Elsewhere, Champions League holders Bayern Munich will face Atlético Madrid, FC Salzburg and Lokomotiv Moskva in Group A. RB Leipzig will take on Paris St. Germain, Manchester United and İstanbul Başakşehir in Group H. While Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will go up against each other, with FC Barcelona and Juventus both in Group G, along with Dynamo Kyiv and Ferencváros.
Europa League winners Sevilla have been drawn with Chelsea, Krasnodar and State Rennes in Group E. Manchester City will meet FC Porto, Olympiakos and Olympique de Marseille in Group C. Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool will go up against AFC Ajax, Atalanta BC and Midtjylland in Group D. While Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Mönchengladbach were drawn in Group B.
