Following their narrow defeat to Bayern Munich in the Supercup, Borussia Dortmund return to the Westfalenstadion on Saturday to take on SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga.

Borussia Dortmund will also be aiming to put behind them the disappointing result they experienced last time out in the Bundesliga in the 2-0 defeat to FC Augsburg, a game that showed a whole of negatives and next to nothing in the positive column. Freiburg have started the season well, and will certainly be no pushovers. But the Black and Yellows face a must win game heading into the international break.

After starting the season with back to back wins, Borussia Dortmund have suffered two straight defeats at the hands of Augsburg and Bayern Munich. They were a bit unlucky on Wednesday night, as they did enough to get the win, but were let down by two rather flukey Bayern goals.

Now they must pick themselves back up very quickly, as anything other than a win on Saturday could spell disaster for Lucien Favre and his team.

Sc Freiburg finished last season in a very respectable eighth place with 48 points, which is a big improvement on the 2018/19 season, where they finished in 13th place with 36 points. They have had a good start to this season so far, winning two games and drawing one. In their previous game, Freiburg hosted VfL Wolfsburg and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

The coach behind the players is 55-year-old Christian Streich, and he has been in charge since 2011. He recently signed a contract extension in June, as he hopes to improve again on his team’s final league position.

It will be tough to beat last season’s eighth place for Freiburg after they lost the services of two key players in defender Robert Koch, who joined Leeds United in the English Premier League, and striker Luca Waldschmidt who also went to a new country in Portugal to play for Benfica. They have added a number of new players to the squad, like Guus Til, Florian Müller and Baptiste Santamaria.
