Borussia Dortmund could look to sign a centre-back if feasible opportunity arises

Borussia Dortmund are not expected to be too active in the final days of the transfer window, but could still look to sign a centre-back if the opportunity arises.
Borussia Dortmund have made three signings so far this summer, bringing in Thomas Meunier, Jude Bellingham and Reinier Jesus. The BVB bosses have been vocal about the fact that there isn’t any money left for more new signings. But Kicker report that should an economically feasible and sensible opportunity arise in the centre-back position in the coming days, sporting director Michael Zorc could become active in the transfer market once again.
Mats Hummels, Dan Axel Zagadou and Manuel Akanji are the only three specialist centre-backs in Borussia Dortmund ranks at the moment. While Emre Can and Lukasz Piszczek have also been used in the back three by Lucien Favre.
While Kicker don’t mention any potential names of possible targets, BILD claim that Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Mainz 05 defender Moussa Niakhaté. The tabloid adds that Niakhaté is free to leave Mainz for 15 million euros, but the Black and Yellows will only make a move for him if Manuel Akanji is sold before Monday’s transfer deadline.
Akanji has been linked with a move to Premier League Leicester City in recent days, although Borussia Dortmund reportedly aren’t keen on selling the Swiss international so late in the transfer window.
Dortmund certainly could do with another centre-back in their ranks, especially with the packed schedule awaiting them this season. And it will be interesting to see if they make any moves in the final days of the transfer window.
