Michael Zorc showed once again why he is the best in the world at what he does, by leading Borussia Dortmund to another excellent transfer window.

It was a very quiet transfer window in terms of incomings and outgoings, especially when compared to some of Borussia Dortmund’s recent summers. But the Black and Yellows were able to add some much needed quality and excellent young talent to their squad, while retaining all but one of last season’s starters.

The transfer window was dominated by rumours linking Jadon Sancho with a move to Manchester United. Borussia Dortmund ensured that they held all the cards by extending his contract last summer, setting an early deadline to avoid an Ousmane Dembele type situation, and then sticking to their guns when Manchester United failed to meet said deadline.

Keeping hold of Sancho for at least another year is probably Dortmund’s most important piece of transfer business in this window. Now they can wait until next summer to sell the Englishman when more teams will be able to afford him. And it also gives them more time to find a replacement. There weren’t too many obvious and available candidates who could have matched his quality in attack. But with another year to scour the globe for Sancho’s replacement, Michael Zorc, Markus Pilawa and co. will certainly be able to find the right candidate.

But keeping hold of Sancho wasn’t the only piece of business Borussia Dortmund conducted this summer. They also made some shrewd signings, and got rid of players on big money contracts. Here is a recap and analysis of Dortmund’s busy summer.
