Manchester United reportedly wanted to sign Nico Schulz on deadline day, and their offer left Borussia Dortmund baffled.
According to ESPN, Manchester United made a bid to sign Borussia Dortmund Nico Schulz on a season long loan deal on transfer deadline day. The Premier League side reportedly offered a loan fee of one million euros for the left back, and offered to pay his salary for the rest of the season.
The proposal is said to have left those in charge at Borussia Dortmund baffled. And it reportedly led them to question the credentials of United’s recruitment and scouting team. Manchester United wanted to keep Schulz in reserve ahead of what promises to be a gruelling season, the report adds. The offer was obviously rejected, and the German international stayed at the Westfalenstadion.
Schulz only joined Borussia Dortmund from TSG Hoffenheim in 2019. He endured a difficult first season at the club, losing his spot at left wing-back to Raphael Guerreiro. He missed the first three games of this season due to a calf injury, but has come off the bench in each of the last two matches. The 27 year old has four years left on his contract.
Manchester United spent the majority of the transfer window looking to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. They were unsuccessful in that pursuit as well, with the Englishman staying on with the Black and Yellows for at least another year.
ESPN add that Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still holds out hope for signing Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho, even though his team have failed to sign both players this year.
