Goals from Steffen Tigges, Franz Pfanne and Taylan Duman helped Borussia Dortmund II beat Wegberg-Beeck 3-2 and make it five wins out of seven in the Regionalliga West.

After making an impressive start to the season, Borussia Dortmund II went into their game against Wegberg-Beeck aiming to continue their promotion push in the fourth division of German football. And a tightly contested 3-2 win helped them rise to the top of the Regionalliga West standings.

Head coach Enrico Maaßen named a strong starting XI, led by captain and leading goalscorer Steffen Tigges. Stefan Drljaca, Maximilian Hippe, Taylan Duman and Richmond Tachie, all with some form of first team experience, also started.

And it was Tigges who gave Borussia Dortmund II the lead, scoring his fifth goal of the season in the 20th minute of the game. The lead was only short lived though, as Manuel Kabambi pulled Wegberg-Beeck back level after a mistake by Tachie.

Both sides continued to create chances, and it took the Black and Yellows until the 63rd minute to get their lead back, with Franz Pfanne turning the ball into the back of the net. But Kabambi equalised once again in the 76th minute after the referee failed to spot a foul on Dortmund’s Niklas Dams.

The referee was fully alert in the 80th minute though, awarding Borussia Dortmund a penalty after Alaa Bakir was fouled inside the box. Taylan Duman stepped up to make it 3-2 and give Enrico Maaßen’s side their fifth win of the season.
