Borussia Dortmund internationals: Erling Haaland nets hat-trick for Norway
By Tushar Bahl
Erling Haaland issued the perfect response to missing out on the European Championships, as he scored a hat-trick to lead Norway to a 4-0 win over Romania.
Just days after their heartbreaking defeat to Serbia in the European Championships qualifying play-off semi-finals, Erling Haaland and Norway returned to the field against Romania in the UEFA Nations League. And the Borussia Dortmund striker was in inspired form as he scored a hat-trick to fire his country to a 4-0 win.
Haaland opened the scoring for Norway in the 13th minute, before RB Leipzig striker Alexander Sorloth doubled their lead going into the break. Haaland then added a second in the 64th minute, before completing his hat-trick with a stunning left foot finish just ten minutes later.
The goals helped Haaland take his tally to 56 goals in 56 appearances for club and country since the start of 2019.
Elsewhere, Thomas Meunier and Axel Witsel both played 90 minutes but were unable to prevent Belgium from suffering a 2-1 defeat to England in the Nations League. The Red Devils took the lead through Romelu Lukaku, but Meunier gave away a dubious penalty which allowed England to make it 1-1. They completed the turnaround in the second half to secure a vital 2-1 win. Jadon Sancho came on off the bench in the 89th minute for the Three Lions.
Raphael Guerreiro had a solid game at left back as Portugal played out another goalless draw, this time in the Nations League against France. While Denmark enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win over Iceland, with Thomas Delaney playing 90 minutes.
The Borussia Dortmund players involved in the Nations League face another game before returning back for training later this week.
