Nico Schulz has become the latest addition to Borussia Dortmund’s growing injury list, and the wing-back is set to be out for some time.

Borussia Dortmund have begun preparations for this weekend’s Bundesliga clash against TSG Hoffenheim, albeit with a much reduced squad, as 13 players are still on international duty. Lucien Favre will only be able to train with his full squad on Friday. But the Black and Yellows have already suffered yet another injury blow, with Nico Schulz now out with a torn muscle fibre.

Schulz played 70 minutes in Germany’s international friendly against Turkey last week, but returned to Dortmund after the game. Ruhr Nachrichten report that the wing-back is now expected to be out for weeks, although there has not been any official confirmation from the club yet.

He becomes the latest Borussia Dortmund defender to drop out, after long term absentee Dan Axel Zagadou (knee injury) and Manuel Akanji (tested positive for COVID-19). Mateu Morey also missed training on Tuesday, as he is currently suffering from a cold. While U-23s defender Henri Weigelt, who has been training with the senior squad, is out for 4-6 weeks with an ankle injury.

There is also some positive news on the injury front, as Tobias Raschl is back in training after missing the start of the season with a ligament strain. While Thorgan Hazard has also increased his workload, and is in line for a return to training next week. The Belgian international suffered a hamstring injury in Borussia Dortmund’s 3-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach last month.
