Borussia Dortmund U-23s continued their impressive start to the season with a dominant 6-0 win over Rot Weiss Ahlen on Saturday.
Having started the season with five wins and two draws, Borussia Dortmund II went into their game against Rot Weiss Ahlen sitting pretty at the top of the Regionalliga West standings. And Enrico Maaßen’s side got out of the blocks very quickly, scoring four goals past Ahlen in the opening 21 minutes.
Niklas Dams opened the scoring from a corner, before goals from Richmond Tachie, Maximilian Hippe and Taylan Duman helped Dortmund earn an early four goal lead. Duman then added a second at the half hour mark as Dortmund continued to assert their dominance on the game.
With 177 spectators watching on at the Rote Erde stadium, Borussia Dortmund U-23s captain Steffen Tigges then put the icing on the cake by netting his side’s sixth goal of the game. The goal saw Tigges take his tally for the season to six goals. He leads the goal charts in the league along with teammate Taylan Duman, who also has six goals to his name.
Borussia Dortmund II continued to remain on top and could have easily inflicted further damage on their opponents. But it still ended 6-0 in the Black and Yellows’ favour, giving them their sixth win of the season.
Head coach Enrico Maaßen was undoubtedly pleased with his side’s performance, but still saw some room for improvement. The win helped Borussia Dortmund II stay two points clear of second placed RW Essen in the Regionalliga West standings, with 20 points to their name after eight games.
