Borussia Dortmund travel to Italy on Tuesday as they open their UEFA Champions League group stage against Lazio in an encounter featuring an old friend.

Borussia Dortmund kick off their Champions League campaign on Tuesday away to Lazio as they look to get started on the front foot, facing former striker Ciro Immobile. Dortmund are coming off a well earned 1-0 win against Hoffenheim, and we will likely see some rotation in this game as the fixtures start to get congested.

Lucien Favre’s side is currently a bit decimated by the injury bug, especially on the back end. Dan-Axel Zagadou is still out with his knee injury, as is Manuel Akanji as he continues to recover from COVID-19. Emre Can will also miss this game after his red card against PSG in Dortmund’s previous Champions League game.

That would be enough to put Dortmund in a tough spot to fill their back three any game, but on top of that Lukasz Piszczek is questionable after sustaining an eye injury against Hoffenheim. With all of these question marks heading into Tuesday, we are going to be seeing a makeshift defensive lineup.

Here is a look at how Borussia Dortmund could line up against Lazio.

Goalkeeper: Marwin Hitz

Roman Bürki was kept on the bench on the weekend in lieu of Marwin Hitz and that could remain the case on Tuesday. Hitz has played well in his two games, picking up two wins and keeping clean sheets in both of his Bundesliga appearances.
