Borussia Dortmund make the trip to the Italian capital to take on Lazio for matchday one of the UEFA Champions League group stage.

Fresh off an impressive win away to Hoffenheim, Borussia Dortmund kick-start their UEFA Champions League campaign with arguably their toughest fixture of the group as they go up against SS Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico. Lucien Favre could ring in the changes as he looks to manage his squad’s playing time to deal with the fixture congestion.

The game will also see the Black and Yellows reunite with former striker Ciro Immobile, who has become one of Europe’s most prolific strikers since his move to Lazio.

Lazio’s underwhelming start to the season continued last weekend, as they were thrashed 3-0 by Sampdoria. Simone Inzaghi’s side were missing Ciro Immobile, who was suspended, but it was still a below average performance in the build-up to their Champions League return, which comes after an absence of 13 years.

After scoring 79 goals in the Serie A last season, Lazio have found the net just four times in their opening four games of the new season. But with Immobile set to return on Tuesday, they will be looking to get back to the form which saw them finish in the top four last season.

Borussia Dortmund enjoyed a hard fought 1-0 win over Hoffenheim on Saturday, their first win in Sinsheim since 2012. They have played six games so far this season, winning four and losing two. Lucien Favre and co. head into the first of three straight ‘English weeks’ in impressive form and full of confidence. Although the Swiss tactician will face a few selection headaches ahead of the game against Lazio, as he has a wealth of options in attack, but hardly any in defence.
