Previous Meeting: Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Lazio (2-1 on aggregate)

The last competitive meeting between these two sides took place all the way back in 1995, when they faced off in the two-legged quarter-final of the UEFA Europe League (then known as the UEFA Cup).

Steffen Freund’s own goal had given Lazio a slender lead going into the second leg at the Westfalenstadion. But an early goal from Stéphane Chapuisat brought Dortmund back on level terms, before Karl-Heinz Riedle scoured a 90th minute winner to help them turn things around and secure their passage to the semi-finals, where they were eliminated by Juventus.

Borussia Dortmund and Lazio did face each other in a pre-season friendly in 2018, and Lucien Favre’s side earned a narrow 1-0 win on that occasion, courtesy of a goal from Marco Reus.
