Borussia Dortmund take on Lazio in the first game of the UEFA Champions League group stage on Tuesday amid a flurry of injuries.

Borussia Dortmund will be severely shorthanded on Tuesday as they kick off their Champions League campaign for the 2020/21 season. Coming off a tough 1-0 win against Hoffenheim on the weekend, Dortmund will look to keep their momentum going although injuries will make it a bit more difficult than it should be. While Dortmund still boast a terrifying attack, their back line has been absolutely decimated by injuries along with Emre Can’s suspension.

Dortmund will be without Dan-Axel Zagadou, Manuel Akanji and Emre Can for this one. On top of that they could also be missing Lukasz Piszczek, who picked up an eye injury in the game against Hoffenheim and remains a game time decision. If Piszczek isn’t able to play, it will be very interesting to see what Lucien Favre ends up doing. Will he keep the makeshift back three or will he fall back into his back preference of a back four.

Lazio have really struggled out of the gate so far this season, with only one win and four points through four games in the Serie A. Former Dortmund striker and goal machine Ciro Immobile has also been held in check thus far, with one goal and one red card to his name. Even so, Dortmund can’t take the Italian striker lightly in their run in with their former number 9, as he still has the finishing ability to make them pay for any defensive lapses.
