Team News

Borussia Dortmund will get some much needed reinforcements ahead of this game. Playing a very make shift back three against Lazio clearly didn’t work but it was hardly the reason Dortmund lost. Dortmund will welcome both Manuel Akanji and Emre Can back as they take on Schalke. Manuel Akanji is finally back in team training after testing positive for COVID-19 and Emre Can was serving his suspension in the Champions League. Although it remains to be seen if the former has the match fitness levels needed to start on Saturday after missing two weeks of training.

Thorgan Hazard and Nico Schulz have also returned to team training and may be able to make it back into the squad in time for the weekend.

Schalke will be without defender Ozan Kabak and midfielder Suat Serdar in the Revierderby. Kabak is still in the midst of his suspension after spitting on an opponent and Serdar will miss this one through injury. It will be interesting to see if Fahrmann is healthy if he slots back into the starting lineup of if Schalke stay with Frederik Ronnow after he backstopped them to their draw last game.

Expected Lineup

Borussia Dortmund:  Bürki – Can, Hummels, Akanji – Passlack, Bellingham, Delaney, Guerreiro – Reyna, Reus – Haaland

Schalke: Rönnow – Ludewig, Sané, Nastasic, Oczipka – Mascarell – Skrzybski, Uth, Bentaleb, Raman – Paciencia
