Roman Bürki expected to return in goal for Borussia Dortmund against Schalke

All indications are that Roman Bürki will be back between the sticks for Borussia Dortmund for Saturday’s derby clash against Schalke 04.
Bürki started Borussia Dortmund’s first two Bundesliga games of the season, but has missed the last four games, with second choice goalkeeper Marwin Hitz taking his place in goal. The 29 year old was absent against SC Freiburg and Bayern Munich due to a respiratory infection. But despite making his return to training, he has still had to watch his compatriot play the last two games from the bench.
Lucien Favre said about his decision to play Marwin Hitz on Tuesday in the Champions League defeat to Lazio, “Marwin played well in Hoffenheim, we have two really good goalkeepers.”
Kicker report that it is expected Roman Bürki will return to the starting line-up for this weekend’s game against Schalke. The magazine adds that the decision to start Hitz against Hoffenheim and Lazio was made by Favre alone. And for those in charge at Borussia Dortmund, while Hitz has done a decent job, Bürki is still the clear first choice goalkeeper.
Asked about the goalkeeping situation at Borussia Dortmund during Thursday’s pre-match press conference, Favre was unwilling to give a clear idea of who will start in goal against Schalke. “We’ll see against Schalke. I can not say more,” the Swiss tactician said.
Bürki recently signed a new contract which will keep him at Borussia Dortmund until 2023. While 33 year old Marwin Hitz is in the final year of his contract with the Black and Yellows.
Borussia Dortmund are also set to welcome Manuel Akanji back to the squad against Schalke after his return to training. Emre Can is also set to return to the starting XI after missing the Lazio game due to suspension.
