Borussia Dortmund host Schalke in the first Revierderby of the season on matchday five in the Bundesliga on Saturday in a must win game.

Borussia Dortmund have a big derby game on Saturday against Schalke as they get back to Bundesliga action. After a tough loss in the Champions League against Lazio, the Revierderby presents the perfect opportunity to get back on the right foot and recapture any momentum they lost. There’s more than just three points in the table is at stake when these two meet.

Emre Can has tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday and will miss the next couple weeks as a result. With Dan-Axel Zagadou still out with his knee injury, losing Can poses a big problem for the Dortmund back line. Having already had to play with makeshift back lines the past two games due to injury, it looks like it could be more of the same in this one. We will likely see Piszczek in the starting lineup in Can’s place, with one of Akanji and Delaney on the other side.

Schalke have been atrocious in recent months, failing to register a win in their last 20 games. Having started the season with one draw and three losses it hasn’t been any better starting the 2020/21 season. Not only are they in the relegation spots right now, they have scored twice and conceded 16 in those four games. It will be interesting to see if they can bring their play up in a game that means a little bit more.
