Leipzig dispatch 10-man Hertha Berlin
RB Leipzig came from a goal down to beat Hertha Berlin and stay top of the Bundesliga standings. Jhon Cordoba gave the capital club the early lead, but Dayot Upamecano equalised for Julian Nagelsmann’s side soon after. Hertha went down to ten men after summer signing Deyovaisio Zeefuik was sent off for a second yellow card.
But Leipzig had to wait until the 77th minute to take advantage, and it was Marcel Sabitzer who scored the winner from the penalty spot.
Gladbach earn the spoils in topsy-turvy game
Borussia Mönchengladbach left it late against Mainz, but ultimately got the job done, winning a thrilling game 3-2. Marco Rose’s side took the lead through Lars Stindl, but a brace from Jean-Philippe Mateta helped Mainz turn things around.
But just when it looked like Mainz would finally get their first points of the season, Jonas Hofmann scored a penalty to equalise, before Matthias Ginter headed home the winner in the 83rd minute to give Gladbach the victory.
Gladbach are now up to fifth, while Mainz remain rooted to the bottom with zero points from their opening five games.
