Impressive Stuttgart held by Köln

Stuttgart continued their impressive start to the season but were unable to see off the challenge of FC Köln in the Friday night game. The newly promoted side took the lead through Orel Mangala in the opening minute. But they could not put their chances away after that, and Köln took advantage from the penalty spot, with Sebastian Andersson scoring the equaliser.

The game ended 1-1 and took Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side up to fourth place, while Köln stayed in the relegation play-off spot.

Union Berlin held by resilient Freiburg

Two goals in three minutes saw Union Berlin and SC Freiburg play out a 1-1 draw at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. Vincenzo Grifo’s curling effort gave Christian Streich’s side the lead, but the home side responded quickly and equalised through Robert Andrich.

Union Berlin had a number of chances to take the lead in the second half, but Freiburg held firm to ensure that the two teams had to settle for a point.
