Lucien Favre’s contract is unlikely to be extended beyond the end of the season, and Borussia Dortmund are already said to be thinking about potential candidates to succeed him.

With Lucien Favre’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, SportBILD say that an extension for the Swiss tactician appears to be unlikely at the moment. Those in charge at Borussia Dortmund are already said to be considering potential candidates to replace him next season.

The magazine claims that the name of Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach Marco Rose is one that has been mentioned. While RB Leipzig’s Julian Nagelsmann and RB Salzburg’s Jesse Marsch are the other potential candidates to take charge at Borussia Dortmund next season if they do decide to part ways with Favre.

The trio have developed a great reputation around Europe for their fast-paced, attack-minded football with high tempo and quick switch of play. All three coaches have enjoyed great success at their respective clubs, and so getting them certainly won’t be easy. Rose and Marsch both have two years remaining on their current deals, while Nagelmasnn is under contract with Leipzig for three more years.

While Favre’s future has come under scrutiny from the German media on a number of occasions over the last 18 months, he still enjoys great support from the players. Mats Hummels said after Borussia Dortmund’s win over Schalke, “I do believe that he (Favre) feels comfortable here, we would like to continue with him.”
