Borussia Dortmund player ratings: Sancho, Haaland seal 2-0 win over Zenit
By Tushar Bahl
Jadon Sancho (7/10)
Sancho had a below average first half and lost the ball an incredible 20 times before half-time alone. Still, he managed to create the team’s two best chances, setting up Marco Reus and Erling Haaland in the minutes before the break. He looked much more committed in the second half, and even helped out defensively. That hard work was rewarded with a goal from the penalty spot which proved to be key for Dortmund.
Marco Reus (5.5/10)
Reus forced two good saves from the goalkeeper in the first half. But other than that, he wasn’t able to make a big impact on the game. He did hit the post at the start of the second half, but he was adjudged to be offside. The BVB captain was substituted just three minutes before the penalty was awarded, or he would have been the one to give his side the lead.
Gio Reyna (5/10)
Reyna made his first ever start in the UEFA Champions League, but it wasn’t a game to remember for him, as he was unable to make much of an impression. He did come close with a shot from the edge of the box early on, but that was as good as it got for the 17 year old. After that, the game passed him by, and he probably should have been taken off much earlier.
Erling Haaland (7/10)
Haaland had a great chance to give Borussia Dortmund the lead on the stroke of half-time, but he fired his effort well wide of goal. He wasn’t going to miss when played in by Jude Bellingham in the 91st minute though, and the goal sealed a 2-0 win for his side. Overall, it was another committed display by the striker, who now has 12 goals in just ten Champions League appearances.
