Borussia Dortmund got the job done with a 2-0 win against Zenit Saint Petersburg in a must-win Champions League game on Wednesday.

After last week’s unfortunate start, where Borussia Dortmund fell two goals behind after just 30 minutes, they largely controlled this match. The dominated the ball all game and prevented Zenit from getting a single shot on target. The only thing missing was the opening goal, which took until the 78th minute to arrive.

They finally got their breakthrough late in the game thanks to a Jadon Sancho penalty after Thorgan Hazard was fouled in the box. Erling Haaland’s second goal of the campaign sealed the win in the dying moments after he was played through on goal by Jude Bellingham’s flick-on.

It was a deserved win for Borussia Dortmund. They finished the game with 70% possession and 11 shots, five of them on target. On the other end, they limited Zenit to four shots and Roman Bürki did not have a save to make all game. Here are three takeaways from the hard-fought, yet comfortable win.
