Erling Haaland missed Borussia Dortmund’s win over Arminia Bielefeld with a minor knee injury, but he will be back in the side on Wednesday.
Borussia Dortmund announced before their game against Arminia Bielefeld that Erling Haaland was missing from the squad due to a “minor knee injury”. But all fears were quickly allayed by head of licensed players’ department Sebastian Kehl, who revealed in an interview with Sky that the striker was only being rested as part of Lucien Favre’s rotation policy to cope with the congested fixture list.
The former Borussia Dortmund captain also confirmed that Haaland will be back in the squad for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League game against Belgian side Club Brugge.
"“Erling Haaland will be ready to play again during the week in the Champions League,” Kehl said. “We have a very large squad and are rotating again in some positions.”"
Julian Brandt and Marco Reus shared the number nine role against Arminia Bielefeld in the absence of Haaland. And while his absence was certainly felt throughout the game, Borussia Dortmund got the job done thanks to Mats Hummels, who scored a second half brace to help his side earn a vital win.
Despite missing the game, Haaland was certainly active on social media as he cheered on his teammates from home. The 20 year old will now be aiming to lead Borussia Dortmund to victory against Club Brugge on Wednesday as they look to take an important step towards qualification to the round of 16.
Haaland loves playing in the UEFA Champions League, and has scored 12 goals in just ten games in the competition. He has scored or assisted at least once in each of his six appearances for Borussia Dortmund.
