Borussia Dortmund star Gio Reyna earns first United States call-up

Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Gio Reyna has been called up by the United States National Team for the first time.
Reyna was named in head coach Gregg Berhalter’s youthful United States squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Wales and Panama. It is the Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder’s first call-up to the USMNT senior team, capping off what has been a stellar 2020 for him.
Nicknamed “the American Dream” by Erling Haaland, Reyna has certainly enjoyed a remarkable rise this year. The 17 year old made his senior debut for Borussia Dortmund in January after impressing during the mid-season training camp. He has since become a regular starter for the club, and has earned the trust of head coach Lucien Favre. He has made a total of ten appearances for the Black and Yellows so far this season, and has two goals as well as four assists to his name.
Reyna is rated very highly at Borussia Dortmund, and has already agreed to a long-term extension with the club, which will be made official when he turns 18 later this month.
Reyna, who has already represented his country at the U15s, U16s and U17s levels, follows in the footsteps of his parents, who were both United States internationals. His father Claudio Reyna earned 112 caps for the USMNT, while his mother Danielle Egan represented the USWNT six times.
