It will be a lot more than just three points on the line on Saturday when Bundesliga title rivals Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich lock horns at the Westfalenstadion.
Just goal difference separates Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich going into this weekend’s Der Klassiker. Both teams have started the season with five wins and a defeat, with the Bavarians currently ahead on goal difference. With the international break coming up right after this game, both teams will be aiming to get the three points which would be a massive lift to their title hopes.

Borussia Dortmund have won each of their last four games without conceding a goal, and head into this game on the back of a comfortable 3-0 win over Club Brugge in the Champions League. Lucien Favre’s side have conceded just twice in their opening six Bundesliga games, but keeping a clean sheet against a free-scoring Bayern side will be a much tougher task.

Bayern Munich have tasted just one defeat in 2020, and have won each of their last nine games. They have scored at least twice in all 12 of their games so far this season, with the 4-1 defeat to Hoffenheim the only blemish in their near-perfect record. Hansi Flick’s side ruthlessly dispatched FC Salzburg 6-2 in the Champions League on Tuesday, with Robert Lewandowski starring once again.
Bayern have been struggling a bit defensively though, and have conceded nine goals in the Bundesliga already this season. And that is something Borussia Dortmund will take encouragement from.
