Mats Hummels took part in Borussia Dortmund’s final training session ahead of Saturday’s crunch clash against Bayern Munich.
Hummels suffered a thigh injury during Borussia Dortmund’s win over Arminia Bielefeld, and missed the mid-week game against Club Brugge in the Champions League as a result. Lucien Favre said during his press conference ahead of his side’s game against Bayern Munich that a decision on whether or not the centre-back would feature in Der Klassiker would be made on Saturday.
According to Sky Sport, Hummels was able to take part in Borussia Dortmund’s final training session ahead of the game, which makes his participation more likely.
Hummels is one of Borussia Dortmund’s most important players, so having him in the team would certainly be a big boost to them. The defensive leader has made ten appearances so far this season and has three goals to his name.
If Hummels isn’t fit to start, Axel Witsel will likely fill in at centre-back alongside Manuel Akanji. Thomas Delaney and Lukasz Piszczek are other potential options for Lucien Favre to consider.
Emre Can is also back in training after spending two weeks in quarantine. The German international tested positive for COVID-19 last month, and missed four games as a result. He is likely to be in the squad against Bayern, but it remains to be seen if he is fit enough to start.
Both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich are in excellent form going into Saturday’s top of the table clash. And we could be in for a captivating contest between the Bundesliga’s two best teams.
