DFB Pokal: Borussia Dortmund to face Eintracht Braunschweig in the second round
By Tushar Bahl
Borussia Dortmund face a tricky away clash against Eintracht Braunschweig in the second round of the DFB Pokal.
The draw for the second round of the DFB Pokal, which was made on Sunday, paired Borussia Dortmund with second division side Eintracht Braunschweig. The game will be played on December 22/23 and will be the final game of the calendar year for Lucien Favre’s side.
The Black and Yellows will make the trip to Lower Saxony for the first time since the 2013/14 season, when they won 2-1 courtesy of a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang brace. The last time these two sides met in the DFB Pokal was in the first round of the 2005/06 season, and it was Braunschweig who tasted a shock 2-1 win on that day.
Eintracht Braunschweig are currently in 14th place in the 2. Bundesliga standings. But they have already produced the biggest shock of the DFB Pokal so far. They eliminated Hertha Berlin in the first round of the competition in September, beating them 5-4.
Borussia Dortmund enjoyed a 5-0 win over MSV Duisburg in the first round of the DFB Pokal, and they will be hoping for another comfortable win in the second round.
Winning the DFB Pokal is certainly high on the list of Borussia Dortmund’s targets for the season. They have been eliminated in the third round in each of the last two campaigns, but they’ll be aiming to make a deep run in the competition this season.
Elsewhere, Bayern Munich were drawn away to Holstein Kiel, while RB Leipzig will face Augsburg in an all-Bundesliga clash. Borussia Mönchengladbach will travel to SV Elversberg, and Bayer Leverkusen will host Eintracht Frankfurt.
