Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho has had a slow start to the season by his high standards, and now Michael Zorc has commented on what the Englishman is missing at the moment.
After getting 20 goals and 20 assists in all competitions last season, Jadon Sancho has struggled to replicate those numbers so far this season. The Borussia Dortmund forward has two goals and three assists in nine appearances this season, with both his goals coming from the penalty spot.
Sancho endured a difficult evening against Bayern Munich last weekend, before making way for Thorgan Hazard after 69 minutes. While those at Borussia Dortmund say that its normal for a player of his age to have a dip in form after enjoying a rapid rise, not having Sancho at his best certainly hurts the team.
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has now explained why the England international has failed to find his form so far this season. Speaking in an interview with local newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten (subscription required), Zorc said:
"“He has had better and more efficient games. He’s lacking a bit of natural sense of easiness at the moment. Of course we also speak with him, but it is not something you can create just by talking. We all want the same thing this season. And we hope that the knot will burst soon.”"
Head coach Lucien Favre was also asked about the Borussia Dortmund star’s lack of form, and hinted that he may not be fully fit at the moment. “You can’t be in top shape all year. If he’s not at 100 percent for a month, we have to accept that,” Favre said.
Michael Zorc also spoke about Reinier Jesus, who has yet to make his first Borussia Dortmund start since joining the club on loan from Real Madrid. “Physicality is still lacking with him. You can tell that he was barely able to train or play in Spain for months.”
Reinier has been limited to just 105 minutes of action so far, and reports in Spain claimed last week that he could look for ‘a solution’ if he situation does not change soon.
