Erling Haaland and the rest of the Norway squad has been told to quarantine for ten days, and the decision could have implications for Borussia Dortmund.
Norway international Omar Elabdellaoui tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, and now the local health authorities in the country are demanding that the entire squad, including Erling Haaland, goes into quarantine for ten days. The Norway players were due to travel for their UEFA Nations League clash against Romania on Saturday, but were refused permission to leave and were sent back to the team hotel.
The NFF had sent a letter to the National Directorate of Health, asking for an exception, so they could travel for their crucial Nations League matches against Romania and Austria. But their request was denied and UEFA has now announced that the Nations League game between Norway and Romania has been canceled.
Erling Haaland and his teammates are currently in quarantine. According to the federation, all players were tested four times and every player returned a negative test. But if the health authorities stand firm on their decision, the entire squad may have to quarantine for ten days.
It still remains to be seen whether Norway will be allowed to take on Austria next week. The decision of the Norwegian health authorities could have potential implications for Borussia Dortmund as well. The Black and Yellows are due to take on Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga next weekend, and a ten day quarantine for Erling Haaland could mean that he would have to miss that game.
