Borussia Dortmund’s prodigal son – Mario Götze made his debut as a late substitute in the 2009 Bundesliga game against 1.FSV Mainz 05. He quickly became a key player for the Black and Yellows, and was a vital cog in the 2010/11 Bundesliga title winning team. He helped Dortmund retain the Bundesliga title in the following year, before making the controversial decision to join rivals Bayern Munich in 2013.

Götze scored the goal that won Germany the 2014 FIFA World Cup, but after failing to make a significant impact at Bayern, he returned to Borussia Dortmund in 2016.
