Four Borussia Dortmund players were in action for their respective national teams on Saturday, as Raphael Guerreiro and Portugal were knocked out of the Nations League.

Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Julian Brandt was a second half substitute as Germany earned a vital 3-1 win over Ukraine on Saturday to set up a mouth-watering final matchday clash against Spain. Ukraine took a shock lead through Roman Yaremchuk, but goals from Leroy Sané and Timo Werner (x2) helped Germany complete the comeback.

The win helped Germany go top of League A Group 4, one point clear of Spain. The winner of Tuesday’s clash between the two countries will qualify for the Nations League finals.

Defending champions Portugal will not be in the Nations League finals though, after they suffered a 1-0 defeat to France. Raphael Guerreiro played 90 minutes at left-back, but N’Golo Kante’s second half goal was enough to help the World Cup champions beat Portugal and qualify for the Nations League finals.

Manuel Akanji was also in action on Saturday, as Switzerland held Spain to a 1-1 draw. Remo Freuler gave Switzerland the lead in the first half, but they were pegged back in the 89th minute thanks to Gerard Moreno’s equaliser. Yann Sommer had earlier saved two penalties from Sergio Ramos, but they weren’t able to hold on for the win. Sommer’s Borussia Mönchengladbach teammate Nico Elvedi was sent off for Switzerland, who now face a must-win game against Ukraine on Tuesday.
