Erling Haaland to return to Dortmund; does not have to undergo ten day quarantine
By Tushar Bahl
Erling Haaland does not have to undergo a ten day quarantine and could be available for Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga clash against Hertha Berlin next weekend.
Reports in Norway claimed yesterday that the entire squad on international duty would have to undergo a ten day quarantine after Omar Elabdellaoui tested positive for COVID-19. Norway’s game against Romania was cancelled after the players were not allowed to travel. There were fears that Erling Haaland could have to quarantine for ten days, which would have meant him missing Borussia Dortmund’s next game, against Hertha Berlin, as a result.
But Ruhr Nachrichten report that Haaland will now return to Dortmund and would not have to undergo a ten day quarantine upon his arrival. The 20 year old will be in isolation initially, but he can return to training after providing two negative COVID-19 tests.
The reason for this is that Norway’s quarantine rules for Haaland and his teammates, do not necessarily apply in the countries where their clubs are based. Players who play their club football in Norway will still have to quarantine.
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has also confirmed to Kicker that he expects Erling Haaland back in Dortmund soon.
There has been great chaos surrounding the Norway international team in recent days. They were scheduled to play three games, but two have already been cancelled, and it remains to be seen if their clash against Austria will go through. Canceling the Austria game would be a blow to Norway’s hopes of qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. But having Erling Haaland back in Dortmund will be a huge relief for the club’s bosses and fans alike.
