Five Borussia Dortmund players were involved in international action on Sunday, as Belgium and Denmark earned vital wins in the UEFA Nations League.

Borussia Dortmund’s Belgian trio of Thomas Meunier, Thorgan Hazard and Axel Witsel all started for the Red Devils in their crunch UEFA Nations League clash against England, who had Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham on the bench. Belgium made a fast start and raced to a two goal lead through Youri Tielemans and Dries Mertens.

England were unable to claw their way back into the game, and the introduction of Sancho in the second half wasn’t enough to inspire a comeback. Bellingham was an unused sub for the Three Lions.

The win helped Belgium retain top spot in Group A2 and knock England out of Nations League contention. Belgium will now face Denmark on Wednesday, and a draw will be enough for them to seal qualification to the Nations League finals. They will be without the suspended Thomas Meunier and Axel Witsel for that game after the duo picked up their second bookings of the tournament against England. That is good news for Borussia Dortmund, who next play Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

Thomas Delaney was also in action on Sunday, as Denmark left it late to keep themselves in the race for qualification to the Nations League finals. Christian Eriksen’s 92nd minute penalty helped the Danes earn a 2-1 win over Iceland. They are two points behind Belgium ahead of the two countries’ meeting on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Raphael Guerreiro has returned to Dortmund after suffering a muscle injury on international duty with Portugal. His injury isn’t serious though, and he should be fit for Borussia Dortmund’s game against Hertha Berlin.
