Dan-Axel Zagadou is on his way back from a knee injury, and he has already set his sights on winning trophies with Borussia Dortmund.

After three months out, Dan-Axel Zagadou is finally back in training, and is closing in on his return to action. The Frenchman suffered a knee injury during pre-season, but he could finally be available for selection again towards the end of the month. Ahead of his return, the Borussia Dortmund defender spoke to BVB-TV about a number of topics, including his injury break, how the team has developed in recent months, and his goals for the season.

Zagadou has endured a rough time with injuries of late. He suffered a knee ligament injury just after Borussia Dortmund returned to training post-lockdown. He made his return as a substitute for the final two games of last season, but then suffered another knee injury during the pre-season training camp in Switzerland.

Speaking about his rehab, how he spent his injury period, and when he expects to be back in the side, Zagadou said:

"“Three months is a long time. I did part of my rehab in Paris, where they took good care of me. Then I came back to Dortmund. I worked hard, especially doing a lot of rehabilitation training because my knee first had to be completely stable. The rehab is not over yet, but I feel much better.”“I don’t think I’m at 100 percent yet. The most important thing for me is to be fully fit for action again. My knee has to be completely strong, too. Only then will I be able to help the team. I am really looking forward to that.”"

While Zagadou’s absence has certainly been felt in the Borussia Dortmund defence, the Black and Yellows have made an impressive start to the season defensively, especially considering the injuries they’ve had to deal with. And the 21 year old believes that it is because BVB are now defending more as a team.

"“I think that the attitude has changed. I’ve been following the games and think that the team is defending more together – whether with a back three or four. That’s why we are conceding fewer goals.”"

Zagadou also spoke about his goals for this season, and said that he hopes to help Borussia Dortmund earn good results and win trophies after making his comeback. “A successful season for me is when I spend many minutes on the pitch – and when the team achieves good results. Winning one or two titles wouldn’t be bad, maybe even three. That would then be an absolute top season.”
