By Tushar Bahl
The final international break of the calendar year came to an end on Wednesday, and Borussia Dortmund duo Thorgan Hazard and Jadon Sancho enjoyed comfortable wins.
Thorgan Hazard and Belgium met Thomas Delaney and Denmark in a key final matchday clash to determine which team would qualify for the UEFA Nations League semi-finals. And it was the Red Devils who came out on top, beating Denmark 4-2, with Romelu Lukaku scoring a brace. Borussia Dortmund winger Thorgan Hazard assisted Lukaku’s second goal of the game, before being substituted in the 77th minute.
Thomas Delaney played 70 minutes in defensive midfield for Denmark but wasn’t able to prevent them from suffering defeat. While Belgium duo Thomas Meunier and Axel Witsel were suspended for the game and are already back in Dortmund.
Belgium are now through to the UEFA Nations League finals, and will take on of France, Italy or Spain in the semi-finals of the tournament in October 2021.
England also returned to winning ways on Wednesday as they cruised to a 4-0 victory over Iceland. Jadon Sancho came off the bench and assisted former Manchester City teammate Phil Foden. While Jude Bellingham was an unused substitute.
Hazard, Sancho, Bellingham and Delaney will now return to Dortmund on Thursday and will undergo a COVID-19 test. They will not be back in training until Friday, leaving them with a very short time to prepare for the game against Hertha Berlin on Saturday. The Black and Yellows are facing a packed schedule, with ten games coming up in the next 31 days.
