Borussia Dortmund are reportedly monitoring the progress of highly rated Brentford striker Marcus Forss.

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Borussia Dortmund scouts were in attendance to watch Forss on his senior debut for Finland against France during the recently concluded international break. Forss scored the opening goal of the game and helped his country earn a shock 2-0 win against the World Cup winners.

Ornstein claims that two Bundesliga clubs were present to monitor the progress of Forss, and Borussia Dortmund have been keeping tabs on the striker. Forss, who plays for Brentford in the second division of English football, has made 13 appearances so far this season, scoring six goals in the process. Those goals have come in just 438 minutes of action across two competitions.

Forss has been with Brentford since 2017, when he was released by Premier League side West Bromwich Albion. He enjoyed his breakthrough campaign last season with AFC Wimbledon in the third tier of English football. Ornstein has compared Forss’ physique, movement and finishing to that of Jamie Vardy, who won the Premier League Golden Boot last season.

It remains to be seen if Borussia Dortmund will make a move to sign Forss, who has three years remaining on his current contract with Brentford. The Black and Yellows’ attack is currently led by Erling Haaland, and the likes of Marco Reus, Julian Brandt, Thorgan Hazard and Reinier are also capable of filling in at the number nine role. While the highly rated Youssoufa Moukoko is also a part of the first team squad, despite having just turned 16.

But if Forss continues his fine run of form, and performs well for Finland at the European Championships next summer, Borussia Dortmund could well be tempted to make a bid for him.
